This tool is intended for cutting roots or other really tough blockages. Out of all the tools we have in this store, this tool is my favorite. We call it Shovelman ™
Our drain root cutter can be used to reinstate junctions, but the difference between this tool and a reinstatement tool is that it has larger openings on the cutting plate which encourages debris to pass through the tool.
This makes it ideal for cutting roots, bricks, or cement out of a pipe.
The Tungsten carbide bits are especially noteworthy because they are shaped like a wave to rasp away at the obstruction. The tool can be used with or without the outer ring, and you could even use the tool without the cutting plate and outer ring. (Like a Drill head or Mole tool)
You will notice that the cutting edge is only in a forward facing direction. This is so that the tool can be used safely in PVC pipes without causing damage to the pipe wall.
Unlike a Mole or Drill head, this tool cuts 90% of the inner diameter of the pipe simultaneously. The cutting surface is 0.39” (10cm) smaller than the intended pipe, so a 3” (75mm) tool will be 2.56” (65mm) in diameter, and the 4” (100mm) will be 3.54”(90mm) in diameter. The 6” (150mm) will be 5.51”(140mm) in diameter
You can purchase centralizing skid brushes with a shaft lock (sold separately), or use it without a skid brush if you need to pass through multiple bends.
You can select to use it on an 5/16” (8mm) shaft, or a ⅜” (10mm), and my personal favorite the ½” (12mm) shaft.
Remember that this tool is substantially heavier than an average drill head, so I recommend that you use it with the thickest shaft possible. A thicker shaft will deliver more torque to the tool, and with cutting tasks, this is a major consideration.
