This kit is meant primarily for descaling of lime scale, tuberculation, or other hard incrustations in pipes made from cast iron, cement, vitrified clay or other harder materials. It is not suitable for PVC because the circular chains have hard metal bits fused to the individual chain links. These teeth could cause damage to PVC pipes if they are kept stationary for too long whilst the shaft is rotating in the pipe.
The kit is lightweight, and can be transported in an elevator so you can reach pipes in the communal stack of a multi story building with little effort.
Safe to use in a confined space with limited access, and the chemical resistant sleeve that houses the shaft will protect your hands while the shaft rotates inside.
The centrifugal force of the circular chain acts perpendicular to the axis over the full circumference of the pipe, so the chain is capable of cleaning damaged or delicate pipework.
In contrast to the conventional chain knocker, this prevents the pipe wall from being subjected to individual blows, and the chain works over the full circumference of the pipe on the pipe wall.
Although the circular chains with fused hardened metal tips are meant for descaling, you can remove pipe blockages caused by root intrusion too.
Attach the drill head without chains or one of the Mole heads to the end of this circular chain and you have a tool which will annihilate blockages.
This kit only comes with a 12mm (1/2") cable. Anything thinner than this will struggle with torque limitation over longer distances. You will need a more powerful drill than the smaller diameter kits, so please get in touch with us if you need a recommendation.
The kit includes:
Please lubricate your shaft before using it. Aviation law prohibits us from delivering products which could be considered flammable so we send the shafts without lubricant in the sleeve.
Before you order the longest length possible, consider this:
Most experienced users order the kit with a short shaft for everyday use and supplement it with a secondary shaft and connector. The advantage to this is that on a day-to-day basis, you carry less with you into your workspace, then if you need extra length you can fetch your secondary shaft from your vehicle and connect it to the one you are working with. A second advantage to having two separate shafts is that should you accidentally kink the one you are working with then you have a backup available immediately.
