The pipe sander was developed with pipe rehabilitation (pipe lining) tasks in mind. Before a pipe can be relined it needs to be cleaned to the initial inner diameter.
Often, the pipe’s inner diameter has been reduced by limescale, struvite or urine scale, and this makes relining the pipe pointless because the relined pipe will have a smaller inner diameter.
To solve this problem, the pipe relining specialist will use a circular chain to clean the pipe. This is effective for getting the larger chunks off of the pipe wall, but they still have smaller pieces of debris to remove before they can start relining the pipe.
This is where the pipe sander comes in. It fits to the end of the flexible shaft with set screws, and as the shaft spins, the paper sands away the debris.
This is not necessarily a new idea, but what sets this tool apart from similar tools is that you can purchase regular waterproof sandpaper at your local hardware store as opposed to buying specialized sanding pads
This means that you would be able to clean a series of different pipe diameters with the same tool by simply cutting a longer or shorter piece of sandpaper.
