Description
The alternative K9 204 flexible shaft set includes a flexible shaft, a protective sleeve, and the alternative 204 adapter.
The 8mm shaft is our second thinnest option, making it suitable for navigating multiple bends while still providing enough torque for lightweight chains. We do not recommend using heavy-duty chains on an 8mm shaft, because this shaft is not suited for heavy duty tasks.
It is designed for light-duty drain cleaning tasks such as light scale, small roots, and soft blockages in 75mm-100mm pipes. However, it will not perform well when removing heavy scale, or solid obstructions.
The alternative K9 204 flexible shaft is 20 meters long and 8mm in diameter. We often receive customer requests for extended lengths, but we advise against exceeding this length, as the housing of your machine limits the amount of shaft it can accommodate.
We started making these shafts after we made an alternative K9 102 shaft. Clients who had both machines were happy with our shafts and asked us to provide one for their K9 204. Most customer feedback indicates that the shaft quality is similar, but some customers report that they prefer the Ridgid sleeve, which is a bit thicker.
We considered making a thicker sleeve but concluded that a thicker sleeve is not necessarily beneficial. The shaft itself is rigid enough and does not need a thicker sleeve to provide more rigidity.
When you purchase this shaft, please consider purchasing a few extra adapters. Immediately after the power source, the flexible shaft in your machine makes a sharp bend to the tightly wound coil. This sharp bend forces the inner strands of the flexible shaft to perform at such a sharp bend, which causes heat friction to build up just after the adapter to the power source. This is the most likely spot for a shaft failure, so if you have a failure on site, and you happen to have a few extra adapters around, then you can quickly replace the adapter and continue on with your work.
Please DO NOT weld or solder the end of this shaft because these shafts are made from spring grade steel which is heat treated. This means that it is heated and cooled at a specific rate. When you heat it up again under different conditions, you will weaken the properties of the shaft.
We also recommend that you acquire a crimping tool. These are inexpensive and available at hardware stores or other shopping sites.
Many customers write in to ask if we can make up a longer shaft like this, but we do not recommend exceeding the length of 20 meters as the housing of your machine limits the amount of shaft that it can take.
